FAQs |
| |
| What is "vegan?" |
| |
| (vegan): Free of animal products. Unlike ovo-lacto vegetarian
foods, vegan products contain absolutely no animal-derived ingredients. There is
no honey, dairy, eggs, fish or gelatin. |
| |
| What is the shelf-life of a soft and chewy Sun Flour Baking cookie? |
| |
| Our cookies stay soft and chewy for two months and can be refrigerated or frozen for up to a year! |
| |
| What do you use instead of eggsöhow do your cookies hold
together? |
| |
| We use a combination of potato starch and tapioca flour,
which replaces eggs and acts as a binder. |
| |
| Do you use carob instead of chocolate? |
| |
| No. We use dairy-free evaporated cane juice sweetened
chocolate chips. Yum! |
| |
| Why don't you use dairy or eggs? |
| |
| Our binding agents do the job without the excess fat
and cholesterol contained in eggs. As for dairy, a large segment of the population is lactose intolerant. |
| |
| What is the difference between "Wheat Free"
and "Wheat/Gluten Free?" |
| |
| "Wheat Free" products may still contain gluten. Many wheat
free flours, such as barley, oats and rye, still contain small amounts of gluten. It
is difficult to bake without gluten, but Sun Flour Baking has successfully
formulated a blend of gluten/wheat free flours to bake our delicious vegan cookies
for you to enjoy! |
| |
| What is Gluten? |
| |
| Gluten is a cohesive, elastic protein that is left behind
after starch is washed away from a wheat flour dough. Gluten is made up of many different
proteins. Many people have allergies to gluten known as CELIAC DISEASE. For information
on this disease, visit the Celiac Disease Foundation. |
| |
| Is there cholesterol in your cookies since they contain
oil? |
| |
| No, cholesterol is only found in animal products. Sun
Flour Baking Company uses a non-GMO, expeller pressed canola oil which is both non-hydrogenated and cholesterol free. We do not use hydrogenated soy margarine or any hydrogenated oils. |
| |
| Is Canola Oil Safe? |
| |
| Canola oil is healthy and safe. The myth that canola oil is the same as rapeseed oil is thankfully not true! For information about Canola Oil, visit Canola Info or see Whole Food's position. |
| |
| Do you guarantee that your cookies are Egg, Dairy, Wheat, Gluten, Sugar and Peanut Free? |
| |
| All Sun
Flour products are produced in a 100% vegan dedicated
facility, which means that we DO guarantee that our cookies are
free of ALL animal products. We cannot guarantee that there
won't be trace amounts of wheat, gluten, sugar or peanut because
all of our products are processed on the same equipment.
However, all utensils and machinery are cleaned thoroughly between
each batch, so it is at your discretion whether or not to purchase
Sun Flour products. Mighty-O donuts use a 100%
vegan dedicated facility and their bakery is free of tree nuts
as well. However, all donuts contain wheat and peanuts are used
on some donuts, so if you are highly allergic to peanuts, they
recommend not eating their donuts. |
